Priorities

  1. Identify the active enrolment (the one whose EnterpriseMgmt scheduled tasks exist and run), then remove the leftover Enrollments keys, the orphaned EnterpriseMgmt tasks and the associated MDM certificates. Re-enrol after cleanup.
  2. Free space before anything else: no other diagnosis is meaningful while the drive is this full.
  3. Set the service back to its normal start mode, then check what disabled it: a policy, a hardening baseline, or a third-party tool.
  4. Resynchronise immediately with 'w32tm /resync /force'. Check the configured time source and, on a virtual machine, host time synchronisation. Check the time zone too.
  5. Check connectivity to login.microsoftonline.com, the device clock, the PRT (dsregcmd /status), and any Conditional Access policy targeting the device.
  6. In IntuneManagementExtension.log, search for the application id listed below to get the installer's own exit code. Then check the detection rule and the installer's return codes in the Intune portal.

2Consistency findings

The result of cross-checking the collected sources against each other. The 'Passed' entries are kept on purpose: without them there is no way to tell a check that succeeded from a check that never ran.

Critical 6

Critical

Multiple Intune enrolments (2)

ENR-002 Enrolment

Several enrolments carry ProviderID = 'MS DM Server'. The MDM client can honour only one: policies from the others are ignored silently, which produces unexplainable gaps between the portal and the device's real state.

What to do

Identify the active enrolment (the one whose EnterpriseMgmt scheduled tasks exist and run), then remove the leftover Enrollments keys, the orphaned EnterpriseMgmt tasks and the associated MDM certificates. Re-enrol after cleanup.

Critical

1 application(s) in error are blocking the Enrollment Status Page

ESP-003 ESP

An application whose InstallationState is 4 (Error) stops the ESP from installing any further application. Everything queued behind it never starts, so the page times out on a symptom rather than on the cause. These are the applications to look at, and nothing else.

Source Raw\Registry\MS_Windows_Autopilot.regevaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • a19f4c7b-2e83-4d16-b5a0-7c91e2d84f35 : InstallationState = 4 (Error)
What to do

In IntuneManagementExtension.log, search for the application id listed below to get the installer's own exit code. Then check the detection rule and the installer's return codes in the Intune portal.

Critical

Clock drift of 421 seconds

TIME-001 System

The device clock is more than five minutes away from the Microsoft service clock. Past that threshold, Kerberos and OAuth token validation fail: enrolment, MDM synchronisation and single sign-on all stop working. This one cause produces varied and misleading error codes such as 0x80072F8F, 0x80180006 and certificate failures.

Source Raw\LiveState\time-status.txtevaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • Measured drift: 421 s
  • Local time: 10/16/2026 16:21:42
  • Time source: time.windows.com,0x9
  • Last successful sync: 2026-10-09 16:14:42
What to do

Resynchronise immediately with 'w32tm /resync /force'. Check the configured time source and, on a virtual machine, host time synchronisation. Check the time zone too.

Critical

Update service disabled: DoSvc

SVC-001 Updates

A disabled service does not start on demand. The update stack then fails with codes that point anywhere but here, which is why this is worth finding first.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • DoSvc: Stopped, Disabled
What to do

Set the service back to its normal start mode, then check what disabled it: a policy, a hardening baseline, or a third-party tool.

Critical

Only 8,2 % free on the system drive

STO-001 System

Below ten per cent, a cumulative update has nowhere to stage itself. The failure is usually reported as a download or an installation error, never as a disk one.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • C: - 19.4 GB free out of 237.3 GB
What to do

Free space before anything else: no other diagnosis is meaningful while the drive is this full.

Critical

Entra ID token acquisition failure

SIG-TOKEN Logs

The IME could not obtain a token to call the Intune service. Until this is resolved, no policy and no application can be retrieved.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • Occurrences: 9
  • Sources: Microsoft-Windows-AAD/Operational
  • Raised to critical: no PRT on the device
  • First occurrence: 2026-10-16 11:02:42
  • Last occurrence: 2026-10-16 11:02:42
What to do

Check connectivity to login.microsoftonline.com, the device clock, the PRT (dsregcmd /status), and any Conditional Access policy targeting the device.

Warning 16

Warning

No Primary Refresh Token (PRT)

ENR-009 Identity

The device is joined to Entra ID but AzureAdPrt = NO. Without a PRT, single sign-on does not work and everything relying on the device identity is degraded: Conditional Access, Windows Hello, token acquisition by the IME.

Source Raw\LiveState\dsregcmd-status.txtevaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • AzureAdPrt = NO
  • AzureAdPrtUpdateTime =
  • KeySignTest =
What to do

Check connectivity to login.microsoftonline.com and device.login.microsoftonline.com, the device clock, and the 'SSO State' section of dsregcmd. Locking and unlocking the session is often enough to re-issue the PRT.

Warning

First synchronisation never completed

ENR-011 Enrolment

The enrolment's FirstSync flag is not set. The initial provisioning phase (Enrollment Status Page) never finished, so some of the initial policies and applications may never have been applied.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • GUID 6F2A41D8-93C4-4B17-A0E5-1D8C7E2F4B60: IsSyncDone = 0, BlockInStatusPage = 7
What to do

Read the timeline and the ModernDeployment-Diagnostics-Provider/Autopilot channel to find the blocking step. Check the applications declared as blocking in the ESP profile, and their timeout.

Warning

2 application(s) of 6 never completed during the ESP

ESP-004 ESP

These applications were still pending when the tracking stopped. If the page timed out, they are what it was waiting for.

  • 7e14b93f-5c20-4d8a-91e6-b482f07a5d61 : NotInstalled
What to do

Either the ESP timeout is too short for the number of required applications, or these installations are genuinely stuck. Compare the timeout in the ESP profile with the real install time of the applications below.

Warning

1 local setting(s) known to break Autopilot

AUT-006 Autopilot

At least one of the four security options that stop pre-provisioning is set: logon message title or text, require Windows Hello for Business or smart card, or UAC prompting for credentials on the secure desktop.

Source wlidsvc service, HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, PolicyManager\current\device\Authenticationevaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • preprovGpo: LegalNoticeCaption, LegalNoticeText
What to do

Remove these settings, or keep them away from the device during provisioning: target them at users rather than devices, or apply them once the deployment is over.

Warning

1 Autopilot endpoint(s) of 5 unreachable

AUT-010 Autopilot

These addresses are in Microsoft's Autopilot networking requirements. Unreachable from here, they would stop a new deployment or a reset of this device on this network.

Source Raw\LiveState\connectivity.txtevaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • time.windows.com:123 [Time synchronisation (NTP, UDP 123)] - NTP: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time.
What to do

Allow them through the firewall and the proxy. Microsoft states that Autopilot proxy settings belong on the proxy itself, not in an Intune policy.

Warning

System disk space low

SYS-001 System

19.4 GB free (8,2%). A Windows feature update or a large application deployment may fail for lack of room.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • Free: 19.4 GB / 237.3 GB (8.2%)
What to do

Plan a cleanup. Check the size of the IME content cache and of the SoftwareDistribution folder.

Warning

Reboot pending

SYS-002 System

A reboot is pending (Component Based Servicing). Many installations and updates fail in this state, with codes that never refer to it.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • Reasons: Component Based Servicing Windows Update
  • Last boot: 2026-10-08 15:14:42 (8 d 01 h ago)
What to do

Reboot the device before any further application diagnosis: it eliminates a large share of false problems.

Warning

Defender signatures 9 days old

SEC-005 Security

Signatures have not been updated for over a week. This is also a connectivity signal: the same network blockage probably affects Intune synchronisation.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • Signature age: 9 days
  • Engine version: 1.1.24090.11
What to do

Run 'Update-MpSignature' and observe the failure if there is one. Check the configured update source and the proxy.

Warning

1 policy conflict(s) between providers

POL-001 Policies

Several MDM providers set the same setting to different values. The client keeps only one, and the Intune portal still shows the policy as applied. This is the classic cause of 'the policy is assigned but has no effect'.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • DeviceLock/MaxInactivityTimeDeviceLock -> 15 (MS DM Server), 5 (ContosoLegacyMDM) [effective: 5]
What to do

For each setting listed, keep a single source of truth: remove the setting from the redundant profiles in Intune. In a hybrid environment, check the GPOs touching the same setting as well.

Warning

TLS inspection detected on 1 endpoint(s)

NET-002 Network

The certificate presented for these endpoints is not issued by an expected public authority: something in the middle is decrypting and re-issuing the traffic. TLS inspection on Intune endpoints breaks client certificate authentication and content hash verification - it typically produces 0x80072F8F, 0x80180001 and content hash errors.

Source Raw\LiveState\connectivity.txtevaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • manage.microsoft.com - issuer presented: CN=Contoso SSL Inspection CA
What to do

Exclude the Intune and Entra ID endpoints from TLS inspection, with no decryption and no authentication. This is a Microsoft requirement, not an optimisation.

Warning

Updates are paused: quality updates

UPD-001 Updates

A pause is in effect right now. The device will receive nothing until it expires, and nothing on the device reports this as a problem - it simply goes quiet.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • quality updates held until 2026-10-26 16:14:42 +01:00
What to do

A pause lasts at most 35 days from its start date. If it was not intended, clear PauseQualityUpdatesStartTime and PauseFeatureUpdatesStartTime, or resume updates from the Intune update ring.

Warning

Service set to start automatically but not running: DoSvc

SVC-002 Updates

These ones are meant to stay up. Stopped, the device neither schedules nor transfers anything.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • DoSvc: Stopped
What to do

Start the service and read the System channel around the time it stopped: a crash and an administrative stop are not treated the same way.

Warning

Mode Lan asks for peer caching, and none happened

DOP-001 Updates

Every one of the 6.72 GB downloaded this month came straight from the internet. The configuration is not what is failing - the peers are not being reached.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • Downloaded this month: 6.72 GB
  • Straight from the internet: 6.72 GB
  • From a cache host: 0 B
  • From LAN peers: 0 B
What to do

Check that UDP 7680 is open between devices on the subnet, that they share a group identifier, and that no firewall profile blocks the discovery.

Warning

The declared cache host served nothing: 10.42.7.15

DOP-002 Updates

A cache host is configured, and not one byte came from it this month while more than a gigabyte came from the internet. A cache that does not answer is worse than none: it is believed to be working.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
What to do

Check that the host answers on port 80 from this device, and that its name resolves to the expected address.

Warning

SoftwareDistribution holds 14 GB

STO-002 System

Far more than a serviced device needs to keep. It is not a fault in itself, but it often accompanies a download that retries without ever succeeding.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
What to do

Read the update history first. Emptying the folder hides the symptom and loses the evidence.

Warning

23 update client error(s) over 14 days

EVT-001 Updates

The client recorded failures over the analysis window. The codes are decoded in the error code catalogue.

evaluated 2026-10-16 16:14:42 +02:00
Observed
  • Event 20016 at 2026-10-16 14:08:42 +02:00: Unable to download updates: 0x80072EE7.
What to do

Start from the most recent error, then cross-check it against the update history: the same failure usually appears in both.

MDM enrolments

An active Intune enrolment carries ProviderID = MS DM Server. More than one of those means an incomplete cleanup.

4Autopilot

Whether this device went through Windows Autopilot, with which profile and from which tenant, and at which step it stopped if it did. Microsoft documents little of what Autopilot leaves on a device, so each value says who documents it.

Went through Autopilot: profile 'Contoso - Standard utilisateur', tenant contoso.onmicrosoft.com, Entra join, user-driven mode. Stopped at step ESP - device setup: 1 application(s) in error, which stops the page: Contoso VPN Client 4.2 (a19f4c7b-2e83-4d16-b5a0-7c91e2d84f35).

The deployment, step by step

Each step is placed by what it left on the device. The first step in failure is the one to look at: the steps after it never had their chance. 'No trace' means the device keeps nothing for that step, not that it failed.

Autopilot and ESP findings

The verdicts of the consistency checks behind this section, each detailed in the Findings section.

The profile received

The Source column says who documents each value. Microsoft: Microsoft Learn. Get-AutopilotDiagnostics: described only by the script Microsoft's own ESP troubleshooting page tells you to run. Community: described only in community write-ups. Derived: worked out by this tool from the other values. Microsoft documents little of this on the device side, which is why the distinction is kept.

What this device cannot tell

These answers live in the tenant, not on the device. Where to find them:

  • Whether the device is registered, and which deployment profile is assigned to it: Intune admin center > Devices > Windows > Enrollment > Windows Autopilot > Devices.
  • Two profiles reaching the same device through two groups, which Microsoft gives as a cause of 0x801C03EA: the device's group memberships and each profile's assignments.
  • Which ESP profile applies and its blocking applications: Devices > Windows > Enrollment > Enrollment Status Page. Microsoft notes that blocking apps listed in a user-targeted ESP profile are ignored during device setup.
  • A device reused after self-deploying mode or pre-provisioning, refused with 0x80180014: its Autopilot device record, 'Unblock device'.
  • Hybrid join: the Intune Connector for Active Directory - version 6.2501.2000.5 or later, installed in the target domain - and its log under Microsoft > Intune > ODJConnectorService (event 30132: rights on the target OU).
  • Licences and the device limit (80180018), the MDM user scope, and Conditional Access exclusions for Microsoft Intune Enrollment.
  • The deployment report, Devices > Monitor > Windows Autopilot deployments, and the diagnostics collected automatically on failure, kept for 28 days.

Intune Win32 app (IME / sidecar) decimal 2278622236 · signed -2016345060 source: Catalogue ref: Microsoft Learn - App installation error codes

Meaning. The installation completed without error, but the detection rule cannot find the application.

Likely cause. Two families of cause. Either the application really was installed and then removed - the user uninstalled it, or a self-updating MSI changed its product version - or the detection rule never matched: bad path, bad registry key, a version comparison that is too strict, or x86 and x64 the wrong way round.

        What to do

First check whether the application is actually present on the device. If it is, compare the Intune detection rule against its real state (file path, Uninstall key, version), minding x86 versus x64. If it is absent, it was uninstalled: a required app will reinstall at the next check-in.

WinINet / TLS - server certificate decimal 2147954575 · signed -2147012721 source: Catalogue

Meaning. The secure (TLS) negotiation failed.

Likely cause. Cause number one is a device clock out of sync. After that: SSL inspection presenting an untrusted certificate, or a missing trusted root authority.

            What to do

Check the device's date, time and time zone first. Then confirm no TLS inspection applies to Intune endpoints, and that the Microsoft root authorities are present.

The state of every managed application alongside what is actually installed - side by side, because most application failures are really detection disagreements.

Applications tracked by the management extension

These states come from the local registry (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\IntuneManagementExtension\Win32Apps). This is what the device knows about itself: a gap against the portal means the last state report never got through.

Whether the required endpoints are genuinely reachable, from this device and in its network context.

Each endpoint is tested in three steps: DNS resolution, TCP connection, then a full TLS handshake. The issuer of the presented certificate is recorded: if it is not an expected public authority, something is decrypting the traffic - a configuration explicitly unsupported on Intune endpoints.

Effective WinHTTP proxy: proxy.contoso.local:8080. This is the one SYSTEM services use, independently of the user session's proxy - a frequent source of confusion when diagnosing.

              11Windows Update and application versions

What governs updates on this device, what it actually received, and how current its applications are. Most of what stops a device updating is configuration rather than failure, and configuration produces no error anywhere.

The Source column says where each value came from. A CSP value is what the MDM client applied; a GPO value comes from Group Policy. When both exist the CSP one is shown, because that is the one in force.

Delivery Optimization as it is running

Measured by the Delivery Optimization service itself, not read from the registry. The mode here is the one actually in force, which can differ from the configured one - a device with no policy still runs in some mode.

              What Delivery Optimization actually moved

A device can be configured perfectly for peer caching and still take every byte from the internet. Only the usage counters say which happened. The figures below cover the current calendar month, as Windows keeps them.

Effective configuration, and who set it

Read through Get-DOConfig, which reports the value in force together with the provider that set it. A registry sweep cannot do that: a documented default and a policy that happens to agree with it look identical there.

              What the cache is holding

Each file Delivery Optimization is keeping, with how much of it came from a peer or a cache host rather than straight from the internet.

The cache is empty, or Delivery Optimization did not answer.

The services the update stack needs

Several of these are Manual by design and sit stopped between runs, which is normal. Disabled is the fault worth finding: a disabled service does not start on demand, and the stack then fails with codes that point anywhere but here.

Where the update stack keeps its working files

Measured, not estimated. A SoftwareDistribution folder that has grown without bound, or a system drive with no room left, stops the stack in ways the update history never names.

Whether a version is the newest in absolute terms cannot be established from the device alone: that needs the vendor's own feed. What is shown is the installed version, whether updating is enabled, and - when -CheckAppUpdates was used - what winget reports as available.

              Collection issues

What the collector could not retrieve. Read this before concluding there is no problem: a missing source is not a healthy source.

              StepMessageTimestamp
EventsThe UpdateOrchestrator channel is not present on this build; its counters are reported as not measured.

BAppendix B - How to read this report

Reading aids: the forms an error code takes, the prefix families, and diagnostic routes by symptom.

              Reading an error code

The same code appears in three forms depending on the source: hexadecimal (0x87D1041C), unsigned decimal (2278622236) and signed decimal (-2016345060). They are the same 32 bits. This report always gives all three, because the Intune logs and the portal do not present the same form and you need to be able to match them.

The prefix names the emitting subsystem, which is often enough to know where to look:

              Windows Installer exit codes

These decimal codes appear in the management extension logs and in application states. 1603 is the most common and the least informative: you always have to go down into the verbose MSI log to find the real cause.

              CodeMeaning
              0OKSuccess.
              1601ErrorWindows Installer service unreachable.
1602ErrorInstallation cancelled by the user or the caller.
1603ErrorFatal error during installation - a catch-all; the detail is in the verbose MSI log.

              1639ErrorInvalid command-line argument.
              1641OKSuccess - the installer initiated a restart.
3010OKSuccess - a restart is required to finish.

              Where to look, by symptom

              • An application never arrives. The Application deployment section, then IntuneManagementExtension.log. Separate an installation failure from a detection failure first: the treatment is completely different.
              • A policy has no effect. The Policies and conflicts section. Check that no other provider - and no GPO, in a hybrid environment - sets the same value.
              • The device reports nothing any more. The Identity and enrolment section: MDM certificate, synchronisation tasks, then the clock and connectivity.
              • Autopilot is stuck. The Autopilot section: the step where the deployment stopped, then the ESP tables and the trail of the ModernDeployment-Diagnostics-Provider/Autopilot channel.
              • Scattered, inconsistent errors. Check the clock and TLS inspection before anything else: both produce dispersed symptoms that never point back at themselves.
