Free tools terms of use

What you may do with LB IT Cloud's free tools, their scripts and what they produce. In short: use them, for yourself and for your clients — not take them over under your own name.

What these terms cover

They apply to the free tools published on lbitcloud.com, to the PowerShell scripts published on this site, and to what either of them produces.

They are free and need no sign-up. Using a tool or a script means you accept these terms.

The Anonymizer's source code is also published, on GitHub, under a licence that adds the right to read that code, to audit it and to rebuild its offline file in order to check it. On the use of the tool, it says the same as this page.

What you may do

Use the online tools, free of charge, for yourself, for your organisation and for your clients — including in the course of a paid engagement.
Run the scripts unmodified, in your organisation and at your clients', keep copies of them for that use, and place them as they are in your deployment tools — Intune, Configuration Manager, an internal share.
Adapt the script of a Knowledge article to your estate or to a client's: it is published to be read, adapted and tried. The adapted version stays within the organisation you adapted it for, and keeps its header.
Keep what the tools produce — reports, PDFs, presentations, CSV exports, anonymized files — and use it freely: attach it to a file, hand it to a client, annotate it, quote it. The data you entered remains yours.
Put your logo in the header of a report, where the tool offers it. The line naming the tool and LB IT Cloud, in the footer, stays.
Talk about the tools, recommend them, publish screenshots of their results — preferably with a link to their page.

What is not granted

Without the written agreement of LB IT Cloud SAS, you may not:

redistribute a tool or a script, modified or not: publish it on another site, a code repository, a forum or a script gallery, or hand it to anyone other than for the use described above. To make a tool known, give its address;
make it your product: sell it, rent it out, offer it under your own name, or include a tool, a script or any part of their code, rules or text in a product, a service, a site or an offering, free or paid. You may use the tools in an engagement; you may not make them your offering;
erase their origin: remove or alter a script's copyright header or the line naming the tool in a report's footer, or present a tool or what it produces as your own;
derive a competing tool: take their code, analysis rules, catalogues or text to build an equivalent tool, script or service.

A use not provided for here — redistributing a tool, including it in an offering, a version in your own colours — can be discussed: write to contact@lbitcloud.com.

Ownership

The tools, the scripts, their code, rules, text and presentation are the property of LB IT Cloud SAS and are protected by copyright. These terms grant you a free, non-exclusive right of use, within the limits above; they transfer no ownership to you, and everything they do not expressly grant is reserved. That right ends by itself if you do not comply with them.

That the code can be read — in your browser, or in full on a script's page — grants you nothing more: it is readable so that you can check what it does before you trust it.

The LB IT Cloud name and logo belong to LB IT Cloud SAS. The third-party components some tools use — the PowerPoint export library, the typefaces — remain governed by their own licences, named in the legal notice.

No warranty

The tools and the scripts are provided free of charge and « as is », without warranty of any kind, express or implied — in particular of accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose. They produce estimates and diagnostics from what you enter or what they read: these are neither quotes, nor purchasing advice, nor an audit. Have what matters confirmed before you decide.

The Anonymizer reduces the risk of sharing confidential data; it does not guarantee that a text is anonymous, and recognises only what its dictionary and its patterns know. Read every result before you share it.

A script runs on your machines, under your account and on your decision. Read it before you run it, try it first on a test machine — read-only where it offers that — and have it approved according to your own procedures. Each script's page says what it reads and what it writes.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LB IT Cloud SAS is not liable for any damage, direct or indirect — loss of data, service interruption, loss of business, a decision taken on the strength of a result — arising from the use of the tools, the scripts or what they produce, or from being unable to use them. Nothing in these terms excludes a liability that the law does not allow to be excluded.

Changes

LB IT Cloud SAS may change, suspend or withdraw a tool or a script at any time, and amend these terms. The version in force is the one published on this page; its date is at the bottom.

Governing law

These terms are governed by French law, and their French version prevails. Between professionals, any dispute concerning them falls under the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Nancy.
